Well the so called 'Prince of Darkness' has taken his final curtain call. Born in 1948 he died on Tuesday aged 76. He was probably lucky to attain that age considering the rock n roll lifestyle he lead. Excesses of everything!
I saw him twice. The first time on the Speak of the Devil tour on 14th December 1982 at the Wembley Arena.
I wrote an account of the gig which is photoed here. The one fact I haven't mentioned is that he was completely bald! It was quite a shock to be honest as long hair was definitely the order of the day with Rock & Metal bands. The gig was very good and they were ably supported by Budgie.
The second time was with the Black Sabbath Reunion tour of 2013. I saw them on 13th December at the O2 in London. Bill Ward had fallen out with them so it wasn't a complete reunion as they got another drummer in to replace Ward.
Another great gig, Ozzy was on form, luckily we could see him as they had the screens either side of the stage on. No support band though. I never really liked his voice to be honest, I know that's hearsay to say but there it is! Black Sabbath benefited greatly from having Ronnie James Dio singing and I'/m sure Ozzy's voice was 'helped' abit with audio wizardry in this gig! However that takes nothing away from the Rock icon that he became. They'll all drop off the perch one day.....who will I go to see then!?
