Anniversary

For our 38th wedding anniversary T found us a delightful dog  friendly country pub in a village about ten miles from Newbury.

It was absolutely lovely. Staff couldn't have been nicer, good beer ( made on the premises) good food and a lovely area. We stopped off at Burnham beeches, somewhere we haven't been for years and years. Had a pleasant walk and cake and coffee there.

We stayed at The White Hart on Hamstead Marshall a small village with the pub and not much else. We drove to Silchester Roman remains which were very rewarding. Alot of walls left and the amphitheatre was looking pretty good. A shame the scrub etc wasn't cleared from around it as I'm sure it could be used for performances  today.

The food was really good at the pub. We'd had a good first night and as the second was our anniversary thought we'd maybe got for lobster the next day. Unfortunately their chef had gone down with covid so it was a reduced menu from then on! Bit of a pain but what there was , was well prepared and tasted good!

Pub quiz was abit of fun. All done via your mobile the quizmaster asked each team ( five I think) to choose a piece of music for  as their theme. We chose Black Sabbaths Paranoid. Only later did we realise that the tune we'd picked on our anniversary started 'Finished with my woman cos she couldn't help me from my mind!' Told the quizmaster this, to much amusement!

Had a lovely walk from the pub around the local countryside, no pics as my phone had died. Only about 3 miles. I found a memorial  to the 501st Parachute Infantry  Regiment of the US Army  who were camped here before D-Day which was interesting.

We had the loveliest couple of days, very relaxing, very comfortable  and the very best company.
